What's the Horticulture - Landscaping course about?

This level will suit you if you've developed a real interest in Horticulture and landscaping and want to either progress into work, progress from Level 1 to other related horticulture qualifications, or if you have a passion for learning more about horticulture and developing your skills and knowledge further.

You will study the following areas:
-Principles and application of plant categories and their specific purposes.
-Develop further skills from Level 1
-Laying hard surfaces for external landscaping
-Construct & maintain boundaries (Fencing)
-Build Garden walls & pillars
-Soil science texture & condition
-Establish & maintenance of planted areas
-Analyse soil & prepare ground for planting
-Identify plants by botanical names
-Plant propagation
-Applying fertilizers

For this qualification there will be one assignment for each of the five units studied.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

On completion of this qualification learners may progress into employment or to the City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Horticulture or the City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate, Subsidiary Diploma, Diploma and Extended Diploma in Horticulture.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Level 1 in Horticulture or 2 years experience in the industry and the ability to work outdoors and be able to handle plant material and construction materials. You will also need to have numeracy & literacy skills at Level 1 or equivalent.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Horticulture - Landscaping course?

You will be awarded the City and Guilds (Land Based Services) Diploma in Practical Horticulture Skills Level 2
